A Week on a Tandem in the Medoc - The cycling tracks

We had an amazing week on the Tandem in the Medoc, arriving 15th September. Our first 'holiday' as such primarily for cycling, so we used Lacanau Ocean as our base from which to ride out each day and explore the area.
There are hundreds of kilometres of dedicated cycle routes. These are exclusively for cycles. Some closely follow the roads; others link between towns and cut across open countryside or forests; most are a network through the forests or follow the coast - their common feature is they are all tarmac or concrete.
This one crossing the dunes in the forest between Lac Lacanau and Lac Hourtin.

Alongside these routes are what they call 'Pistes Cyclable'. We cycled many of these as our tandem is a VTT but most could still be followed on a decent hybrid - very few required mountain bikes.

The 'piste' leading to one of the lake nature reserves in the area.
